I picked flowers as the subject for today’s jigsaw puzzle. Not that I actually went and picked flowers from my wife’s flower garden – I don’t have a death wish!
The reason I chose flowers was that earlier today I had to take the trash out to our dumpster that had been quietly baking itself in the 90+ degree weather for the last week, so you can imagine what it smelled like.
You see, A book I once read about medieval times mentioned that in the poorer villages, most people only took baths twice a year, and when they got married, the bride would carry flowers to cover up the smell.
Once officially married, the bride would no longer need the flowers so she threw them away, and that’s where the tradition of a bride throwing her bouquet of flowers came from.
I guess the idea about the woman who caught it would be the next to get married makes sense, when you think about it.
