Today’s Jigsaw Puzzle is a beautiful view of Snake River Canyon, located primarily in the Magic Valley region of southern Idaho.
The Snake River carved it over millions of years as it cut through volcanic basalt and sedimentary rock.
17,400 years ago (give or take a few decades), the immense ice-age deluge known as the Bonneville Flood changed it, creating features like Auger Falls and Shoshone Falls.
The Oregon Trail passes through the canyon, and it was one of the most dangerous parts of the trail.
Evel Knievel’s attempted to jump it in 1974 in a steam-powered “Skycycle X-2” rocket. The jump failed when the parachute opened too early.
It’s also a popular tourist destination.
