Today’s daily jigsaw puzzle is from the New Cathedral of Salamanca, located in the historical center of Salamanca.
That’s in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Castile and León region of Spain.
This door is known as the “Puerta de Ramos” or Nativity Door. It has a richly decorated Gothic facade.
The most iconic figure is a modern-day astronaut, complete with a helmet, spacesuit, and boots. It’s there because they had a major restoration project done, and one of the stone restorers left a “signature” that reflects something from their particular historical era.
In this case, the leader of the project was named Jerónimo García and he felt the astronaut represented the historic achievement of space exploration.
There are other whimsical figures that were added, including
A small dragon is depicted holding an ice cream cone with three scoops. This is reportedly a nod to the city’s lively student population and the ice cream shops in the nearby Plaza Mayor.
Carvings of local wildlife, including a lynx, a bull, a stork, a rabbit, crayfish, and a lucky bunny, for which touching it is a local tradition for students seeking good luck on their exams.
OK, on to today’s daily jigsaw puzzle!
Enjoy!
