The vehicle in today’s daily jigsaw puzzle is called a “Tuk-Tuk,” named for the sound older 2-cycle engines made.
It generally has three wheels and is used for cheap transportation in a lot of countries.
I rode in them in my younger days, and while they may have different names in some countries (a Jeepney in the Philippines), they serve similar purposes.
They have an interesting history behind them. In the Philippines, after the American troops pulled out, they left behind thousands of surplus military jeeps.
As the public transportation systems were pretty much destroyed there, local mechanics took the military scrap, and by modifying the frames, they stretched the bodies and added some parallel bench seats and a roof to make it hold from 16 to 20 passengers, instead of the original two or four people.
If you were to ride in one, you would need to negotiate the price before you got on to avoid being over charged when you got to your destination.
Many of the Tuk-Tuks travel fixed routes and some work much like taxis in that the passengers tell the driver where they want to go.
When I rode in them in the 1980’s the price averaged from around twenty-five cents to a dollar depending on how far I was traveling.
They are fun to ride in and get you where you are going.
