Our jigsaw puzzle today is located on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, inside the Valley of the Temple Memorial Park. It was dedicated in August 1968.
It was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii.
It’s actually a smaller size replica of the original 900-year-old Byōdō-in Temple in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The original was constructed without any nails.
The replica in our jigsaw puzzle is built out of concrete, and features a large reflective koi pond. It also has a 3-ton brass peace bell that visitors can ring, and also has a 9-foot tall statue of the Amida Buddha located in the Phoenix Hall. It is covered in gold leaf.
I was lucky enough to see the original temple in Japan while I was there. It was quite impressive.
I hope you like today’s jigsaw puzzle!
