Today’s jigsaw puzzle is a painting of musician Eric Reed.
From Google: “He is a definitive force in modern jazz, seamlessly bridging the gap between sacred gospel roots and sophisticated post-bop swing.
Born in Philadelphia in 1970, Reed’s musical journey began extraordinarily early; he was a piano prodigy by age two and playing in his father’s Baptist church by five.
His formal studies at Los Angeles’s Colburn School of Performing Arts paved the way for a meteoric rise.
While still a teenager, Reed caught the attention of trumpet icon Wynton Marsalis. This connection propelled him onto the global stage, leading to a prestigious tenure with the Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra during the 1990s.
As a prolific bandleader and composer, Reed has commanded an impressive solo career with dozens of acclaimed albums, including The Swing and I and Pure Imagination.
Beyond traditional jazz clubs, his creative versatility shines through his work composing the film score for the 1999 comedy Life.
Today, Reed remains a vibrant and active luminary in the jazz world, celebrated not just for his technical mastery and soulful blues inflections, but also for his dedication to mentorship and music education.”
