I chose the picture for today’s puzzle because it looks like we might have a new little neighbor—a young cat, barely older than a kitten.
As I was driving home, I caught a quick glimpse of it ducking into the bushes about a block away.
I knew there was little chance of catching the sweet thing, as those roadside bushes lead into a thick patch of woods that stretches on for blocks.
My hope is that it eventually finds its way over to join the small crew of neighborhood cats we feed every day.
Spotting that little stray brought back fond memories of a cat we had a long time ago.
She had a nightly routine of slipping into my youngest daughter’s room after bedtime, curling up at the foot of the bed, and staying there faithfully until the house woke up.
The moment one of us stepped out of bed, she knew it was breakfast time.
And if she thought we were moving a little too slowly? She would let us know with a very loud, impatient reminder!
Today’s puzzle is warmly titled “Reading to Kittens.”
It’s a nod to how our sweet old cat used to climb right into my lap whenever I opened a book, or snuggle up with my daughter in bed whenever she was catching up on her own reading.
Enjoy!
