For today’s daily jigsaw puzzle, we travel to the Hyangwonjeong Pavilion located on the grounds of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea.
The name Hyangwonjeong translates poetically to “Pavilion of Far-Reaching Fragrance.” The name reflects the lotus flowers that traditionally bloom in the surrounding artificial pond.
Built around 1873 by the order of King Gojong (the 26th monarch of the Joseon Dynasty), the pavilion was constructed as a private, intimate rear garden retreat.
Unlike the grandiose administrative halls of the palace, this hexagonal, two-story structure was designed for the royal family to rest, contemplate, and host informal gatherings away from government affairs.
Framed by the majestic peaks of Bugaksan Mountain, Hyangwonjeong perfectly embodies the traditional Korean philosophy of architectural harmony, where human craftsmanship and the natural world blend into a single, breathtaking canvas.
Whether dusted in winter snow, framed by spring blossoms, or reflected in the still summer waters, it remains one of South Korea’s most iconic and photogenic cultural treasures.
Enjoy today’s daily jigsaw puzzle, and if you ever go to Seoul, make it a stop on your trip!
