Yesterday’s jigsaw puzzle got some good feedback, and I’m hoping this one does the same. It’s a car parked at a cliff outside a big city while the sun sets in the distance.
I’ve sat on isolated roads in my younger days, watching the sun set and the stars come out.
Usually I was waiting for someone to bring me some gas or otherwise fix my car.
Imagine you are a seventeen year old teenager on a lonely mountain dirt road in the middle of nowhere and your car has quit. It’s getting dark and cell phones hadn’t been invented yet.
That happened to me, and I sat in my cold, cold car waiting someone to come by after taking a wrong turn.
I couldn’t see any houses nearby and the nearest main PAVED road was miles behind me.
There was zero traffic coming by.
Morning finally came, and I decided to start walking and that should warm me up and help me get awake.
I walked to the edge of the road where a clearing sat hoping I could spot a house from there.
Instead, there was a path complete with some wooden steps going down about thirty feet, – a true sign of life. A paved path at the bottom lead through some trees.
I decided to follow it, and less than thirty seconds later, it took a hard right turn, and I found myself staring at the backside of a 24-hour convenience store and gas station.
I had left my car less than five minutes ago. I groaned to myself, “If I had only done this before it got dark last night!”
The biggest insult was that there was a cheap hotel across the street with a “vacancy” sign lit up in front.
I had frozen all night long when salvation was there five minutes away.
Oh, well. At least I was carrying some cash, even though I had to buy a gas can instead of borrowing one.
A gallon of gas later, I pulled in and filled my tank, then checked into the hotel because I didn’t get much sleep the night before, and home was still about seven or eight hours away.
Needless to say, I got my gas gauge replaced the first thing when I got home.
Enjoy today’s jigsaw puzzle!
