It’s time for another “Imagination Vacation” jigsaw puzzle, and today we travel to the famous Inveraray Castle, located on the western shores of Loch Fyne in the county of Argyll, western Scotland.
Construction started in 1746 by the 3rd Duke of Argyll. The building took 43 years to complete, and it was designed by the famous architects Roger Morris and William Adam.
(No, I never met them. I’m old, but not that old!)
It is one of the earliest and most striking examples of Gothic Revival architecture.
It features a mock-Gothic, turreted greyish-green stone exterior that stands in sharp contrast to its neoclassical interior.
You may recognize it as Duneagle Castle from the TV series Downton Abbey.
Now the bad news. It’s a private family residense for the current Duke and Duchess, but cheer up! Large sections of the castle, the huge formal gardens and the expansive historic armory hall are open to the public during certain seasons.
If I ever get to Scotland, it will be on my bucket list.
OK, on to the puzzle!
Enjoy!
