When I was overseas I visited an open-air spice market much like the one in today’s daily jigsaw puzzle. It was strange seeing spices not in a bottle.
They sell the spices by weight, and put them a paper pouch they fold there right on the spot. It was fascinating to see them create spice Origami in seconds.
I guess they had a lot of practice.
I bought some tea for my wife as I had no clue as to what kind of spice to bring back to Japan with me, and felt tea would be a pretty safe thing to bring.
