It took me a while to track down just what and where the strange building in today’s jigsaw puzzle came from.
It’s the Art Science Museum at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and it was built in 2011, years after my last visit there.
This building looks like a giant lotus flower floating on water. Its unique shape features 10 “petals” of varying heights.
While it looks like a lotus, it’s often called the “Welcoming Hand of Singapore,” with each “finger” housing a unique gallery space .
The dish shape on top collects rainwater and channels it through the center of the building where it creates an indoor waterfall.
The water is recycled for use throughout the building.
It was designed by Moshe Safdie, a world-famous architect.
Enjoy!
