Roof Tiles

I’m wondering how these kind of roof tiles keep water out? It looks like rain could go between the cracks!
Maybe there’s real roof shingles below them and they are only for decoration.
Me? I’d prefer some solar cells up there if I could. Might even save a few bucks on the electric bill.
