I have an old Navy friend named Julie (later married to a guy named Jule, believe it or not) who grew up in the mid-west. She used to kid me about living in a shack with the nearest neighbor five miles away.
She was kidding and later let it slip that her grandparents’ house was actually across the dirt road from them, but other than that, the closest neighbor was almost a half-mile away.
They lived on the far outskirts of a small town and her grandparents owned about 400 acres of dirt.
She would ride her bicycle into town to go to school and it was her desire to see more of the world that lead her to join the Navy.
I somehow picture the shack in today’s jigsaw puzzle as sort of like the house she grew up in, if you believe her descriptions.
Enjoy!
